Knot Rags
Knot Rags is a Melbourne-based fashion label exploring deconstructed knitwear through distressed textures, draping, fringe, and experimental silhouettes. The brand explores the blend of materials; delicate yarns and softer elements with harsher silhouettes and materials like stainless steel. These garments fall somewhere between softness and armour. Knot Rags emerging through Melbourne’s nightlife and creative scene through its playful subversion of the traditional associations attached to knitwear. The brand’s current work continues to explore subversion through the design process; methods of construction and unraveling becoming equally essential for garments to be resolved
Meet the Designer
With a primary background in dance growing up, Hailey developed a strong connection to movement, physicality, and visual storytelling from a young age. Later establishing herself within Melbourne’s live music scene as a drummer and experiencing fashion as an extension of live performance, she became increasingly drawn to the role fashion plays in identity, transformation, and self-expression in nightlife and creative spaces. Knot Rags began as a small self-taught knitwear project to share subversive statement pieces centered around festival fashion. The brand has evolved through years of experimentation, styling, collaboration, and immersion within creative communities across Melbourne and abroad, deepening as an intentional artistic practice. Through an ongoing experimentation with new materials and methods, Knot Rags builds on its original ideas around expression, transformation, and subversion and continues to question the emotional and physical possibilities of knitwear.
