Tasman Banks

Tasman Banks is a Sydney-based fashion designer whose work explores the tension between identity, belonging, and individuality. A graduate of FDS Ultimo, Tasman was born in Sydney and spent her formative years in Dubai, UAE, an experience that deeply informs her creative lens. Her collections reflect a lifelong negotiation with cultural duality and the search for self - a recurring theme in her design language. "I have always struggled to fit in, but I never saw that as a hindrance... I am empowered by my flaws, by my uniqueness, " she says. Drawing inspiration from Tim Burton's romantic misfits and the emotive craftsmanship of Alexander Mcqueen, her pieces blend theatricality with precision tailoring. Tasman has always felt drawn to the strange, and likes to question the meaning of normality. As Rumi once wrote, "Like a shadow, I am and I am not."

Meet the Designer
Tasman Banks' creative journey began with dolls - Barbies, Bratz, and Monster High sparked an early fascination with fashion. At nine, she moved to Dubai, where international culture, travel, and the performing arts broadened her perspective. She returned to Sydney at sixteen and, in 2023, graduated with a Bachelor of Fashion Design from FDS Ultimo, where she discovered the vision of Mcqueen, Westwood, and Margiela. Her industry experience includes internships with Christopher Esber, Romance Was Born, and Nicol & Ford. In 2024, Tasman solo-travelled for four months in search of deeper self-understanding. Berlin, in particular, gave her a lasting sense of belonging. During the weekdays, Tasman is a design assistant at Zimmermann. But she spends her weekends designing and sewing in her dining room (when she’s not out partying with friends). Tasman is a perfectionist and is intensely passionate about fashion. When you are a true creative, expression and creation is what you live and breathe.

Fallen Angel
"Not only does light reveal what is around us but it also makes known that which is within us." — Herbert, 2013 All humans suffer from internal conflict: the desire to chase our dreams versus the destructive belief we aren’t good enough to do so. Once fearless and ambitious, the fallen angel falls victim to soul-eating moths. She fights the constant temptation to give in to the darkness, but with her guardian angel by her side, she never gives up.
