Once fearless and ambitious, the fallen angel falls victim to soul-eating moths. She fights the constant temptation to give in to the darkness, but with her guardian angel by her side, she never gives up.
Tasman Banks is a Sydney-based fashion designer. Tasman holds a Bachelor of Fashion and Design from FDS Ultimo. Born in Sydney, and raised in Dubai from 9 - 16 years of age, Tasman was faced with the intersection of cultural identity and inclusion.
The struggle for belonging was felt, and created a tension for a sense of self and home and place. This is reflected in the challenge of identity in her designs. "I have always struggled to fit in, but I never saw that as a hindrance. I am confident others out there feel the same. Rather, I am empowered by my flaws, by my uniqueness, by my individuality, and inspired by it."
Tasman's collections are influenced by Tim Burton's ability to illuminate misfits in a hauntingly beautiful way, drawing on elements of fantasy and macabre. And by Alexander Mcqueen's emotive design signature. Tailoring expertise is key to her pieces as a symbol of inner strength. This can be modelled by, and for, others, in textiles, giving voice and expression to our shadow side.
