Giovanna De Pontes presents
Tropicália

What happened
Tropicália explores the cultural significance of colour and the deep influence music has on personal style and self-expression. Inspired by Northeastern Brazilian celebratory attire, Congolese Sapeurs, and the styles of jazz musicians, the collection subverts traditional European tailoring with bold colour and unconventional suiting.

My journey into the world of design commenced when I was very young. Since I was a child I have always loved music and fashion. I knew that design was something I wanted to pursue after discovering the strong ties that clothing and style has to music subcultures, perfectly tying my two loves together. I began to create garments when I was teenager, but it wasn’t until after high school when I began to truly pursue design. In 2024, I graduated with an Honours in Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles at UTS, and I have been working as a bespoke tailor ever since.
